History

Did you know that the Michigan Classical Consortium may be the oldest such organization in the country? While the Classical Association of Connecticut started in 1906 and Virginia in 1910, the Michigan Classical Consortium (originally called the Michigan Classical Conference) began in 1895. Programs from these early meetings are preserved in some articles published by Francis Kelsey (The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) in the early 1900’s and offer a fascinating window into Classics in our state in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
